Argyle Grand Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya

Time
Detail
Presenter

An africaSTEMI course intended for cardiologists, cardiac sonographers and physicians who have a passion for echo and imaging.

Case based clinical echocardiography teaching with an emphasis on myocardial wall motion and cardiac function assessment in coronary artery disease, chest pain syndromes and complications of myocardial infarction. Case examples you will have never seen before with a world leading faculty! This year’s course focuses on the use of contrast in ecbocardiography and addresses any misconceptions about contrast technologies. This will be the first ever course on contrast echo in Africa.

Presenter

A course intended for primary care doctors, physicians in internal medicine and doctors in the emergency setting.

Acute cardiac emergency scenarios taught through case scenarios, enhanced by hands on simulation training and emphasized by utilization of point-of-care ultrasound.
Key topics covered

  1. Acute Heart Failure
  2. Acute Chest Pain
  3. Acute Pulmonary Embolism
  4. Hypertensive Crisis
  5. Management of Tachycardias
  6. Management of Bradycardias
  7. Cardiac Tamponade
Objectives: At the end of the course, the clinician will be able to
  1. Recognise important acute cardiac conditions in primary care/outpatient/emergency department setting (presentation, symptoms, vital signs)
  2. Build a differential diagnosis in primary care/outpatient/emergency setting
  3. Build competence in ECG and Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) as central diagnostic tools for all cadres of clinician
  4. Utilize and interpret blood tests and imaging in the evaluation of all acute cardiac conditions
  5. Understand and outline treatment and best practice in both resource-rich and resource constrained settings.
Bonus: Full ACLS/BLS certification following completion of assessment and simulators (at a heavily subsidised cost).
